The brief
An anonymous space is only useful if people feel safe using it. The engineering problem was not messaging — it was identity, abuse prevention and moderation at speed.
A real-time messaging product built around anonymity and moderation — designed to keep conversations open without letting them become unsafe.
The approach
Anonymity with a memory
Users never see each other's identity, but the system keeps a minimal, privacy-conscious record so repeat abuse can be handled.
Moderation in the path
Rate limits, content checks and escalation routes were built into the message pipeline rather than bolted on afterwards.
Cheap by design
A queue-based architecture keeps the bot responsive under bursts without paying for idle infrastructure.
What we built
- 01Anonymous pairing and conversation flows
- 02Realtime message delivery with Redis queues
- 03Rate limiting, reporting and moderation tools
- 04Operational dashboards and abuse alerts
Outcome
A live messaging product that handles bursts calmly, with moderation built into the product rather than promised in a policy.
