The brief

Ticketing apps stop at the ticket, but the part that decides whether a movie night actually happens — who is coming, which show works for everyone, who pays for what — lives in a group chat. Popcorn & Co was built to own that whole evening instead of the last thirty seconds of it.

A movie discovery, booking and social planning app: find what is showing, compare the shows and seats, then split the plan — and the bill — with the people you are actually going with.

The approach

01

The plan is the product

A plan is a first-class object, not a booking receipt: it holds the shortlist, the vote, the show, the seats and the split. Every other screen exists to move a plan forward.

02

One typed API layer

Every screen reads from the same typed client, with TanStack Query handling caching, retries and optimistic updates — so a claim or a vote lands instantly and reconciles quietly when the network disagrees.

03

Honest about what ships

Where a feature is not live yet, the app says so instead of faking a flow. Skeletons, error boundaries and reduce-motion paths were designed in from the start, not patched on afterwards.

What we built

  • 0120+ screens across discovery, booking, plans, chat and settings
  • 02Movie detail, compare-and-book and seat selection
  • 03Group plans: split, planner, votes and shared budgets
  • 04Circle and crew with chat, match planning and an availability calendar
  • 05Coupons, streaming availability and a spend heatmap
  • 06Accessibility labels, reduce-motion support and skeleton states throughout

Outcome

A complete, working prototype — every journey built and verified screen by screen. Ticketing partner integrations, live payments and moderation are the next phase before public release.
