Role

Product design, iOS engineering, Backend, App Store

Stack

Swift, SwiftUI, Screen Time API, WidgetKit, CloudKit

Timeline

14 weeks

The brief

Most focus apps compete on features and end up as another thing to manage. Dou had to do the opposite: start a session in one tap, get out of the way, and still be worth opening tomorrow.

An iPhone focus app that blocks the noise, keeps the session visible in the Dynamic Island and turns consistency into something you can see — without another gamified streak to babysit.

The approach

01

One tap, nothing to configure

The default session is the right session for most people. Durations, blocklists and sounds are all there, but never standing between you and starting.

02

Blocking that respects the platform

Built on Apple's Screen Time APIs so app shields behave natively — no private APIs, no battery drain and no App Store review surprises.

03

Presence without nagging

A session lives in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen, so progress stays visible without opening the app or receiving a notification.

What we built

  • 01Native SwiftUI session flow with Live Activities
  • 02App and category shielding through the Screen Time API
  • 03Focus history, trends and weekly reflection
  • 04Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets
  • 05CloudKit sync across devices

Outcome

An app that disappears during a session and gives you a reason to start the next one — built natively and shipped to the App Store.
